Abstract: A series of deformation anomalies with g reat amplitude along the Qilian seismic belt have been observed prior to the Kunlun mountain MS 8.1 earthquake.Studied the characteristics of g round tilt, stress and st rain, we have obtained the following results:the amplitudes and duration of tilt s observed at Ledu, Lanzhou, Menyuan and Sunan station satisfied the general statistic relat ionship between them and the magnitudes of st rong earthquakes;Observed st ress curve has obvious turn, the di rection of maximum stress change is closely related to the azimuth of earthquake location. The observed st rain cure at Wudu station shows clear anomaly, and the direction of maximum shear st rain is NW 23°~ 44°, and the strain ampli tude also satisf ied the above-mentioned relat ionship. So the researched results demonstrated that the st ress, strain and tilt anomalies are related to the Kunlun Mountain MS 8.1 earthquake.
