Abstract: The result of horizontal crustal movement in China's continent, obtained from 2 epochs of GPS observation in the regional network (including the basic network and the fiducial network) of the Crustal Movement observation Network of China (CMONOC) carried out in 1999 and 2001, is introduced. Division of blocks and their deformations are analyzed. An approach to analyze the intensity of horizontal crustal deformation in localized areas or on blocks in term of displacement velocity dispersion is proposed. The general characteristics of the recent horizontal crustal movement in China's continent and the horizontal crustal movement before the Kunlun Mountain earthquake with M8.1 on Nov. 14, 2001 are analyzed.
