Abstract: In this paper, by using the broad digital data recorded by Shaanxi digital seismic network, the focal parameters and the ambient shear stress field in Weihe fault depression and its adjacent areas are determined. The results show that the ambient shear stress is low in this region, and the average value is 12.7×105 Pa. The seismicity in this region is then discussed. The relations between ambient shear stress and magnitude ML, seismic moment M0 and moment magnitude MW are established and analyzed. And the relation between the ambient shear stress and the focal depth is discussed.
