Focal mechanism solution of small and moderate earthqu- akes and structural stress field in Urumqi area

Abstract: The authors mainly analyzed the focal mechanism solution of small and moderate earthquakes and the structural stress field in Urumqi area. The result shows that the rupture characteristics of moderate earthquakes in Urumqi area were mainly the inverse faulting in natural. Their rupture planes are consistent with the structural strike. The direction of the main compressional stress P axis is NE or nearly NS. The rupture characteristics of small earthquakes in Urumqi area show a certain regional. Their rupture plane of is mainly near EW. The direction of the main compressional stress P is nearly NS. And also exists part NE or NW. It shows that the occurrence of small earthquakes is affected by both the local geotectonics and regional structural stress field.
