Abstract: Macro anomalies, such as strong roll, bubbles and sound in 7 irrigation wells within 1 km of Taikang County, Henan Province, occurred on 23rd May 2016. The field investigation was conducted in order to judge whether the phenomena are related to regional tectonic activity or the change of underground stress. 16 samples of well water, 2 samples of drawing water from the Yellow River and 4 samples of well gas were collected. Ion concentration, isotopic ratios and gas composition of the samples were measured. The results indicated that ① there is a certain hydraulic connection between well water and water drawing from the Yellow River, but hydraulic connection between well water and deep groundwater is not obvious; ② the enrichment of Cl-, SO2-4 and NO-3 in well waters is caused by human activity; and ③ the escaped gases in the wells are mainly biogenic. The anomaly phenomena were caused by artificial irrigation based on two irrigation data before occurrence of anomalies, and no evidence for the correlation between the genesis of anomalies and regional tectonic activity or the change of underground stress was found. Consequently, the possibility of seismic macro precursor is eliminated.
