Abstract: On August 8, 2017, a magnitude MS7.0 earthquake struck at Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan province, China. Seismic risk of other nearby faults has attracted attention of seismologists. In this study, according to the elastic dislocation model for focal faults in a half elastic space, we calculated the accessional shear stress, normal stress and Coulomb stress imparted on other nearby faults by the 2017 Jiuzhaigou MS7.0 earthquake. In calculation, data of dislocation distribution, obtained with the inversion technique using the teleseismic wave form and InSAR data, on the focal fault plane of the Jiuzhaigou MS7.0 earthquake is used. We imaged the distribution of the accessional shear stress, normal stress and Coulomb stress on the horizontal plane with different depths along target faults. The stronger impact can be found on Tazang fault, north segment of Minjiang fault, Dongmengou fault and north segment of Huya fault. We also imaged the distribution of the accessional shear stress, normal stress and Coulomb stress on these four target fault planes, and calculated the average value of stresses within ranges of different depths. The results obtained show that the Jiuzhaigou MS7.0 earthquake could inhibit the rupture of Tazang fault, Dongmengou fault and north segment of Minjiang fault, and promote the rupture of north segment of Huya fault.

Key words: the Jiuzhaigou MS7.0 earthquake, seismic risk, the Coulomb stress
