Abstract: The finite element method, the basic idea of which is the decomposition of a continuous solution field into simpler components in a given way, is a numerical modeling method used widely. It is used in studying earthquake formation and mechanism of earthquake precursors by more and more researchers because of its advantage that it can treat the problems of mechanical constitutive properties of complicated media and boundary conditions in a simple way. This paper introduced the development of the finite element numerical modeling in study of the seismogenic process and mechanism of earthquake precursors. Several suggestions were presented for better use of the method in earthquake researches, for example, numerical modeling mechanical behaviors among mineral grains in rocks.
