Abstract: An MS6.0 earthquake occurred in Zhaosu County, in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on December 1, 2003. Before the earthquake, anomaly of fault-crossing deformation, borehole strain and ground tilting occurred. The main anomaly features are as follows: ① Trend anomaly appears annual difference; ② The short-term anomalies are expressed as strain increase, vector knotting, height difference reduction; ③ Impending anomalies appeared to instable change with large amplitude fluctuating; ④ Anomalies show all types, such as tendency, the short-term anomaly, and impending term; ⑤ Anomaly type was richer, including all types of deformation anomalies; ⑥ Anomalies were centralized, all distributed within 300 km, and many distributed in the south of epicentral area.

Key words: Zhaosu MS6.0 earthquake, Componential-type borehole strain, Ground tilting, Fault-crossing deformation measurement, Precursory anomaly
