Abstract: The quantitative or semi-quantitative analysis of relation between the pre-waves, occurred on water level of wells at Shuozhou and Jingle wells, Shanxi, and air pressure, wind, rainfall as well as strong earthquakes is made. The results show that the amplitude variation caused by pre-wave is not coincident with one by air pressure; the period of the pre-wave is not matched with ones of air pressure, wind and rainfall, being of different occurrence time and shape among them; there is no obvious correlation with heavy rainfall in a short time. On the other hand, the pre-waves correlated with the strong earthquakes in some degree, with coincidence around 50%. A pre-wave phenomenon on water level of well may correspond to some information from the interior seismic source before a strong earthquake rather than be caused by short-term sudden change of some noise factors such as air pressure, wind, rainfall etc.
