Abstract: There are 7 deformation measuring stations and sites across the Babaoshan fault belt. For quite a few years, the data measured from the stations and sites have shown obvious difference in fault activities, and some of them are contradictory. The variation with big order of magnitude of data appeared again in recent years. There is not identical opinion whether it mainly means the strengthening of tectonic activity or the existence of interference from local environment. In some research papers it is considered that it is mainly caused by interference. Through further field investigation and comprehensive analysis of data from stations and sites and geological survey, we consider that it is mainly caused by tectonic activity rather than local interference, and the inconsistency of abnormal variation from different stations and sites is the reflection of complexity of local tectonic environment. The abnormal variation generally reflected the mutual separation and controlling effect between NW-striking Yongdinghe Fault and NE-striking Babaoshan Fault, and the effect is now quite strong. This study result has very important reference value for researches on current tectonic activities and analysis of earthquake deformation precursors.
