Abstract: An MW6.6 earthquake occurred on November 25, 2016 in Aketao, Xinjang region. By utilizing differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar technique, we retrieved co-seismic deformation field of the Aketao earthquake through processing the ascending and descending data obtained from Sentinel-1. Besides, with the combination of deformation field features and focal mechanism solution, we inverted effectively the seismic slip distribution using steepest descent method. The results demonstrate that the ascending and the descending LOS co-seismic deformation fields have distinct characteristics on both sides of the seismogenic fault. The ascending LOS displacement is -8.2 cm and 11.2 cm, and the descending LOS displacement is -21.4 cm and 13.1 cm. The residuals between the inversed ascending/descending deformation and the InSAR measurements are effectively controlled. Most residuals are within -5 cm to 5 cm. Slips are mainly distributed 2~18 km beneath the fault plane. The maximum slip is about 0.96 m, which is located 7 km beneath the fault plane. The average slip angle is about 182.29°. The maximum slip angle is about 197.13°. The slip angle of two sliding distribution centers is close to 180°, indicating that the Aketao earthquake is a typical dextral strike-slip rupture event. When the shear modulus is set to 32 Gpa, the seismic moment M0 of the inversed seismogenic fault is up to 9.75×1018, which is equivalent to moment magnitude MW6.6 and is mostly identical to the focal mechanism solution.
