APPLICATION OF THE SPACE LINEAR CORRELATION OF THE TOTAL INTENSITY OF GEOMAGNETIC FIELD IN PREDICTING THE WUDING AND LIJIANG EARTHQUAKES AND THE THEORETICAL DEDUCTION

Abstract: In this paper, the calculation method of the space linear correlation of the geomagnetic field, and the statistic test and the error analysis have been introduced. This method was applied in predicting the Wuding earthquake with (MS= 6.5, on Oct. 24, 1995), and Lijiang earthquake with (MS= 7.0 on Feb. 3, 1996). The prediction was praised by the State Seismological Bureau. The theoretical deduction of this method has been made by the author. The result indicates that the correlation parameter is related with the selection of the longitude and the latitude of the stations, w hile the law of the space linear correlation of the geomagnetic field is not related with the selection of the longitude and the latitude of stations. This result can be used to direct the selection of the stations.
