Abstract: Based on waveform data observed by the regional seismic network of Gansu province, we calculated apparent stress of 422 ML≥2.0 earthquakes occurred in the Minxian earthquake zone and its surrounding area from January 2010 to July 2014, obtained and analyzed temporal-spatial variations of apparent stress before and after Minxian earthquake. The results show that (1) high apparent stress of earthquakes with ML≥4.0 is concentrated in the epicenter area while that of earthquakes with ML<4.0 is distributed in the surrounding area before the Minxian earthquake. (2) Apparent stress in the epicenter area show an obvious increasing process before Minxian earthquake and the increasing process has continued after the earthquake, which may suggests that the study area is still in the danger of strong earthquake.
