Abstract: In the process of investigating the aftershock sequence of Wenchuan MS8.0 earthquake, we found that there is an obvious sectional feature in the spatial distribution of its aftershocks. According to the calculation results of some seismometry index of the aftershock sequences, the whole aftershock sequence could be divided into two sub-sequences, or the main event-aftershock sequence distributed in the Wenchuan area at the south-west part of the fault and the seismic swarm sequence with several large events of magnitude MS6.0 or greater located between Beichuan County and Qingchuan County with the boundary of Mianzhu County at the north-east part of the fault. The Wenchuan earthquake is likely to possess the characteristic of inheritance movement of active tectonics in the Longmanshan fault system.
