Abstract: In this paper, surface latent heat flux (SLHF) data is processed and analyzed before the Wenchuan MS8.0 earthquake. According to the results, SLHF abnormity appears in local area 7 days before the earthquake. The abnormity information shows weak initially and then becomes strong gradually and becomes weak eventually. SLHF abnormity is very strong when the main earthquake takes place. There are two high SLHF value points which appear in relative low stress area with developed active faults. SLHF abnormity becomes weak quickly after the main shock. SLHF abnormity area migrates with time along main focus faults. 7 days′ synthetic SLHF abnormity area covers around Longmenshan Faults and the epicenter of the main shock locates in the center of the abnormity area.
