Abstract: Af ter the Kizil Reservoir in Xinjiang Region stored water, the hori zontal and vertical deforma tion appeared in the reservoi rarea. Acco rding to the references, the seismic risk induced by the reservoir was studied by using multi- item defo rmation data. The result shows: ① Active fault F2, crossing the reservoi rarea, defo rmed larg ely af ter the reservoir was stored water. It is thought that the changing of the load on the ground caused the deforma tion. ② Altho ugh there is po tential factor inducing ear thqua kes in the Ki zil reservoi rarea, the Precent condition of the reservoir water storage, dam height, fault F2 occurrence, geological tecto nic backgro und, hydrog eological condi tion, and the property of rocks could not induce areserv oi rear thquake. ③ Because the crustal deformation now ha s recov ered to no rmal sta te f rom the oppo site anomaly in the period of const ruction and ini tial water sto rage, and every kind of force-af fected facto rs hav e reacheda new bala nce, the pro babi lity to inducea reservoir earthquake is less in the future.
