Abstract: The space features of the detachment surfaces show the tectonic connection between the shallow secondary faults and the regional deep faults. In the Xining basin, the Tertiary stratum deformation occurs along the direction of NW under action of the regional compressional stress along the direction of NNE. With the balanced profile technology, we draw a conclusion that the detachment surfaces in Xining basin is located at depth of 4~5 kilometers beneath the surface, and inclines towards south, the same result is obtained from the physical exploration data. We consider that the deformation pattern of the sediment cover in the basin is mainly folded, and surges along the bottom of the sediment cover. Based on the analysis above, it is concluded that the shallow detachment surfaces in Xining basin has no background for the strong shock occurrence.
