Abstract: We put forward a new seismotectonic zone along Sanhe, Laishui and Lingshou in the northwest of the North China Plan based on seismological, geological and geophysical data. Many earthquakes have occurred along the zone, such as Sanhe earthquake with magnitude 8 in 1679, Tongxian 61/2 in 1665 and 6 in 1536, Laishui 6 in 1658 and several 5~5.9 earthquakes. This seismotectonic zone across Daxing upheaval, Jizhong and Beijing depression, is a newly generated seismotectonic zone since Later Tertiary. The seismicity along the seismotectonic zone was intense in the third seismic period in North China, but has been quiet in the fourth seismic period until now. The discovery made the seismotectonic framework in the North China Plain more perfect.
