Abstract: Remote sensing technique is widely used, and synthetic aperture radar ( SAR) technique has become a very important means to earth science research for its ability to ac-quire images under all weather conditions and a t all time as well as the particular penetration capabilities of microwave. This article focuses on summarizing the development of SAR technique, introducing the imaging mechanism and characteristics, describing the SAR technique briefly, and taking the examples to illuminate the application of SAR to geologic and seismic research. At last, the important functions of SAR are w ell confirmed.
