Abstract: In this paper, some problem regarding the boundary conditions in three dimensional simulations are put forward. Based on the observed data of the terrestrial stress in upper crust, and constrained by the regional focal mechanism and the law of shear strength, a method for determining the boundary condition is suggested. Some curves representing the change of three principal stresses and three maximum shear stresses with the depth in a crustal model are obtained. Then, we present how to choose the boundary condition for a three-dimensional model with complicated structures, and under this condition we discuss the possible results, which we may obtain.
