Abstract: Using relative power spectral method,we carried out time-frequency analysis of thermal infrared brightness temperature data from geostationary meteorological satellite before moderate to strong earthquakes in North China. The results show that there have dramatic brightness warm temperature changes before M>5 earthquakes in North China. The temperature changes appeared about one month before the earthquake with high values lasting for more than 20 days. The characteristic spectrum amplitude can reach up to more 7 times than the average in the abnormal area, and the earthquake always appeared on the edge of the abnormal area or in the fault zone within the area.
