Abstract: The analytical results of geomagnetic data in Beijing area during 1986~ 1994 show that the variations of total geomagnetic intensity appear increasing tendency during this period, and the increasing amplitude is about 125 nT. The geomagnetic changes and their frequency spectra at various temporary stations show a good consistency. Under the back-ground of geomagnetic normal changes, the seismomagnetic precursor information has been studied. The seismomagnetic precursor information is obtained from several earth-quakes occurred in Beijing and its surrounding area. On the basis of the anomalous infor-mation of geomagnetic precursor, the Baodi earthquake with ML 4.5 on November 18, 1993 is well predicted. The investigation results show that the geomagnetic method has ac-tive effect and good prospect in earthquake prediction study. However, it is still in the stage for data accumulation and test. It is necessary to strengthen the observation and re-search in the future.
