Abstract: In this paper, afriction time-dependent cellular automaton model of seismici ty is desig ned to study the phenomena of the heterogeneity of intensity dist ribution of earthquakes, which is displayed by that some accumulative frequency-mag ni tude relation curves of earthquakes have a breaking point. Energy is put into the model by loading from outside and there is nonlinear interaction among cells. The accumulative frequency-mag ni tude relations produced under different rules of the breaking of single cell and the breaking behave of earthquakes are analyzed. The result show sthat the cascade breaking way of earthquakes is one of the causes that produce the heterogeneity of accumulative frequency-magni tude relation in low ermagnitude and higher magnitude range.
